Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) is reportedly set to face an antitrust investigation from the European Union over its practices of its Teams messaging platform.
Microsoft (MSFT) had offered to cut the price of its Office software without Teams. However, the European Commission wanted a deeper price cut than Microsoft offered, Reuters reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft (MSFT) came under fire after Slack, owned by Salesforce (NYSE:CRM), said the U.S. tech giant had unfairly integrated Teams into its Office software suite. In addition, Slack said the EU should make Microsoft (MSFT) separate Teams from Office and sell it at a fair commercial price.
Earlier this year, it was reported that a statement of objections on the matter could come from the European Commission.
The European Commission opened an investigation after Teams competitor, Slack, complained about unfair practices in 2020.
Neither Microsoft (MSFT) nor Salesforce (CRM) immediately responded to a request for comment from Seeking Alpha.
